December Solstice & Advent Nails - stamping nail art

I made this today, which is the shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere; December Solstice. Every year on this day, even though winter has just started, I always look forward to longer and longer days the next 6 months. It's also the last Sunday in advent. So I felt it was too early for red nails, and purple is the color traditionally used the month before Christmas around here. So that's why I made purple snowflake nails on this Midwinter Day.

And I was curious about Kings & Queens, this red toned purple linear holographic polish that I bought when I Love Nail Polish had a sale earlier this fall, when they sold out their round bottles with this I♥ logo. Their new bottles are square.

 I brought a little snow inside for these two pictures.

Unfortunately the sun wasn't shining today, and the winter daylight was low when I was ready to take the photos, so most of these photos are taken in artificial lighting and don't look as shiny as they do IRL.

 My swatches are too light or too dark, so I hope you can find better swatches somewhere.

The snowflakes are stamped on. I used HB 23, my favorite snowflake plate, and Konad stamping polish in White, Pastel Pink, and Pastel Purple.

GOT Polish Challenge: Brown

Hello everyone!

This is the last day of the GOT challenge this year, so I'm a little sad that I didn't do all the themes, and use those oldies... I had no problem finding old brown nail polish in my collection, Today I wanted to use my vintage Guerlain N°3 Brun (click to see my blog post about it), which is my darkest brown.

I stamped with Color Club: Miss Bliss (click to see my blog post about it), a pink linear holographic polish, and two stamping plates from MoYou London; Sailor Collection 03 and 07 (XL). I used one pattern from 03 on 3 fingers, and a similar pattern (from 07) that nearly looked reversed on the thumb and ring finger.

After I applied Seche Vite, it looked like the brown polish turned the holographic pattern into a darker pink, and I think it looked better that way. It also dulled the holo a little, but without top coat it wouldn't have lasted long.

I've been thinking a lot lately about which challenges to choose now that this one is over. There are two interesting ones, and in addition there are new challenges each week in the groups I'm participating in on facebook and G+, and I have a lot of nail art ideas. But probably I won't be able to publish blog posts every week, so I'm a little sad that I probably can't participate.

Emily de Molly: Where boys fear to tread

Hello everyone!

I first saw this nail polish on The Crumpet, and fell in love with the dark pink color. But the name "Where boys fear to tread" is also fantastic. This is the first Emily de Molly nail polish I try. Emily de Molly is an Australian indie brand. She is famous for her round glitters, but I didn't expect this quality on her holographic nail polish. WBFTT is a very beautiful linear holographic nail polish. Although it's not as strong as the Halo Hues, it is a gorgeous linear holographic, and I was surprised by how well the holoness shows inside. But we had to change three bulbs this week, and the new ones are really bright, so I can't really compare with how the other holos looked inside. This is a one- coater. So on the left hand you can see what one coat looks like. On the right hand I used two coats. The reason why I applied a second coat, was that I had a bold spot on one nail, and that I felt that it showed that I had wrapped the tips, and that I was curious. Do you see the difference between 1 and 2 coats? Maybe the color is a bit deeper? I'm not sure. As usual with linear holographic nail polish, I've used a base coat for holographic nail polish and no top coat. The polish is very easy to apply. So the next photo shows one coat, no top coat, before clean- up. I managed to get a little tip wear the first day, but I'm not complaining, because I didn't use top coat, and this is a very pretty pink holo. The light sources are sun, shade, and my IKEA LED lamp. The first photos are taken outside.

I was thinking about mentioning breast cancer every time I show pink nails this month, since October is breast cancer awareness month. But today my thoughts goes to everyone in Australia. Now I've applied the polish again, and can't wait to try my new Emily de Molly stamping plates. So I'll show you a few photos of this holo goddess with Seche Vite. It didn't dull the holo. Or what do you think? This is two coats+ Seche Vite:

Color Club: #996 Kismet (light green strong linear holographic)

Today I'm finally showing you this beautiful light green, cruelty- free, vegan, strong linear holographic nail polish called Kismet. Kismet is from Color Club's 2013 Halo Hues Collection. Some of the photos were taken in February and some in April. As with all linear holographic nail polishes, I've used a basecoat for holographic nail polish, and not applied top coat. The photos are taken in sun, shade, or inside under a very strong IKEA LED lamp (that often enhances the holographic effect).

I have already showed you the other Halo Hues I own. I bought them on eBay. I've only written blog posts about Miss Bliss and Cloud Nine (from the 2012 Halo Hues Collection), but I've used all my Halo Hues as base for nail art. The other Halo Hues I bought are Eternal Beauty (purple) and Beyond (black).
