#52WPNMC - 3 shades of blue and blue foil

Hello everyone!

"3 shades of blue" is one of the themes this week in the 52 Week PICK N MIX Challenge (#52WPNMC).

My 3 blues are:

Sally Hansen: #420 Pacific Blue
Deborah Lippmann: Blue Orchid
Picture Polish: Freya's Cats

What I did:

The base is Pacific Blue. Then I made stripes with the brush from the bottles of Blue Orchid and Freya's Cats. Because I don't have a top coat that doesn't destroy the foil, I applied Seche Vite (top coat) before painting the foil glue on, and applying the blue nail foil. I bought the foil from KKCenterHk.

I've only read good things about Pacific Blue, and when everybody started to buy as many back up bottles they could, I got curious. And now that I'm wearing it, I must say that I really understand the hype! This is a very beautiful royal blue, and it reminds me of my dear old Dior #489 Cobalt. Sally Hansen has made a new blue polish and given it the same name. I found this bottle on eBay.

Freya's Cats and Blue Orchid are two of my favorite blues, but I haven't showed swatches of them yet. When I do I'll add inks here. One coat of both was enough here. Freya's cat's is created by Nihidra.

52 Week PICK N MIX Challenge - PINK - Skittlette with purple studs, 2 versions

Hello everyone!

It's week 2 in the 52 Week PICK N MIX Challenge, and today I want to show you this pink and blue/ purple nail art that I made this summer. With the garden full of mostly blue and pink flowers, I wanted to make something with these square studs that KKCenterHk sent me all the way from Hong Kong last year. It feels special to write about something that came from Hong Kong after seeing the news about the demonstrations this week. I hope it will end peacefully and democratic.

I tried to stamp this design from Cheeky Jumboplate 10 on all my nails, but it was too difficult to line it up correctly. So I ended up with a skittlette for once. I made one version with studs in the center of the stamped image, and later I added studs to the pinkie and index finger as well.

Again I used a polish from China Glaze's Romantique collection for the stamping. This time I used Admire. I liked this pink metallic on it's own too. I wonder how Mundo de Unas' metallic stamping collection is compared to the Romantique collection.

The studs:

Last time I tried to use these studs, I learned the hard way that I shouldn't drag them in place. Just put some top coat where you want your stud, and dip a dotting tool in it, so that it's easier to pick up the studs. Then try to place it exactly where you want it, and press down gently, and apply top coat.

The bag contains about 50 studs. The size is 3mm, and they consist of circular areas that shine in different shades of purple. They are a little pyramid shaped, and that make them stick better.

When I removed this with acetone, I noticed that the studs turned silver, but they kept their shape. So if you wonder if these can be used again, I would say yes, but as silver studs.

GOT Polish Challenge: Ignored for too long

Hello everyone!

I was feeling ill, and think I had a little fever today, so I had to do something quick and easy. So foil it is. I had ignored very many polishes for too long, but had luckily decided on Zoya Jem, and was already wearing it.

2 days later: I'm well now, and noticed that I had added the wrong inlinkz, so I'm glad I set the blog post back to draft.

Jem is from Zoya's Smoke and Mirrors Collection Fall 2011. So I was surprised that I had to add thinner. The color reminds me of dark, very ripe sweet cherries. I like this dark purple shimmer very much, but after I bought it, I found Zoya on the "NO- list", and that's why I just couldn't wear it. But Zoya is now on the cruelty- free list! :-)

I just dipped a little brush in glue, and tried to make a frame of triangles, waited for the glue to turn invisible, and then applied the nail foil. I held a piece of foil over the nail, and pressed it down with a finger or a Q-tip, and lifted it up.

This is a gold nail foil that looks kind of holographic. I bought it from KKCenterHk. The glue was a gift from last year, when they let me try their silver nail foil.

I used Picture Polish Revolution as top coat, because I had heard that it was supposed to work over foil. It didn't dull the nail foil, but it didn't prolong the weartime either. I didn't do much before going back to bed, and I could already see that the foil had started to wear off on the tips.

Do you know a top coat that works over foil? Have you tried any water based top coats?

#31Nails2014: #5 Rhinestones

Hello everyone!

The theme for day 5 is Rhinestones. And I had to ask Nails Magazine if it was OK to use these huge nail decorations. Lol! Although you can't see it behind all the foil and rhinestones, I have used some nail polish for this manicure too. First, I applied base coat, and silver nail polish, then nail glue, and nail foil, and after that I placed my stones. I hope you miss seeing tonns of photos! Lol! :-) I love photographing manicures like this. It was hard to only pick 12 photos. Which picture do you think I should share on Instagram?

   

If you feel some kind of Déjà vu, you have a very good memory, because although I haven't showed you this stage of this manicure before, you might have seen stage 4 (very bold sci- fi "Pepper Potts Nails" made for Polish Days in June), stage 2 (Holographic nail foil, and how to use it), and stage 1 (the beautiful silver nail polish). This is stage 3, which is without the glitter french tips.

What I didn't have when I made this mani, was a good top coat for nail foil. Next time I'll try Picture Polish: Revolution as top coat. It's cruelty- free, and I've heard that it works over foil without damaging it.

Kismet butterfly nails

This butterfly nail art was made in April. I used linear holographic nail polish for both the base and the stamping, and added a few fimo butterflies. I also used these fimo butterflies last year for my Black butterfly nails, where I also showed how to use this kind of nail decoration.

Sexy Girl Glitter from KKCenterHk

For this manicure I used the Black and the Hot Red N.NAIL Sexy Girl Glitter. This is what I used:

Because my nails are curved and the glitter is completely flat, I had to bend the glitter to the shape of my nails. I thought about different tools, but ended up using tweezers and my fingers. But because of the rough handling of the glitter, and because I later got Seche Vite on the fingers that I tried to work with, and on both sides of the glitter, some of the red color was removed in the process. But the black one still looks fine. So next time I'll be more careful and not use my disposable medical plastic tweezers, but one with flat tip for the bending.

According to KKCenterHk you can use this glue. It is a multipurpose glue. It's the same glue that I used for the nail foil. Maybe that would have given a better result, but I used top coat this time.
