Old bottles of polish: Guerlain N°3 Brun

Guerlain N°3 Brun is one of my oldest bottles of nail polish. You might remember it from my vintage collection post. This is a dark brown creme polish with a subtle shimmer. You can see it on the photos that are taken in the sun. I hadn't used it for years, and the bottle seemed empty. But after adding thinner, the polish behaved like a one coater. So I added more, and then I noticed the shimmer! :-) I'm wearing 2 coats+ Seche Vite. The photos of the thumb were taken before top coat. Look how shiny it is! I don't know if this polish is a teenager or a young adult. Please let me know if you remember/ know.


I'll start with swatches, and then you can take a closer look at the bottle. (I'm sorry about my nail shape. It's because three nails on this hand are broken.)

Now I never wear brown polish. But a long time ago I used brown a lot. And it felt very strange when I was going to paint my nails, but now I like it again.

Sadly Guerlain is on the list of brands that are tested on animals, so I don't recommend buying from them. I just wanted to show you my vintage nail polish. And I wanted to show it before you see the nail art I made for the GOT Polish Challenge.

GOT Polish Challenge: LILAC. Lilac Lilly, Zara and Infinity Nails stamping

I try to check a few animal organiations' cruelty- free lists regularly. And Zoya could until recently be found on one "bad guy" list. So I was very happy when I saw that they had been moved to the other side, among the brands that don't test on animals! :-) So I was very happy to be able to show you two cruelty- free lilac polishes for today's Golden Oldie Thursday Challenge. Although one is from 2008 and the other from 2012, I bought them both two years ago.

One of them is Linda Johansen Lilac Lilly, a very beautiful lilac that you can see under the stamping on the accent nail. One coat of Zoya Zara was enough to give the other nails a nice shimmer. I stamped with gold to match the shimmer. I tried to stamp with a polish from the Romantique Collection again. This time I used China Glaze Magical. And again I used a brand new stamping plate: Infinity Nails 18. I included a picture of it, where you can see the variety of the designs. The Infinity plates have the same size as the MoYou London and the Lily Anna plates, so I store them in the same binder.

I bought the Zoya and China Glaze polish on eBay. Linda Jonansen is a Norwegian brand, and can be bought online from Norway Nails or Linda Johansen's web site. Infinty Nails plates can be bought from Dashica Beauty Shop.

The photo below is not color accurate, but shows the shimmer well.

Sadly, Zara is not the best color for my fair skin, but I like it layered like this. According to Scrangie, it's from the Zoya Winter 2008 Flourish Collection.

I really like Lilac Lilly. It's very bright and pastel at the same time. I've used it a lot for nail art. You might remember it from the Tri Polish Challenge last year. I bought Lilac Lilly in October 2012.

GOT Polish Challenge: YELLOW/ PEACH

Helena Rubinstein: 'Lemon Heat' was one of the old bottles of polish that I looked forward to use when I first heard about the GOT Challenge. I don't remember when I bought it, but I think it can be considered vintage. Do you know how old it is? Maybe 15 years? Still no need for thinner.

For the stamping I used Konad: SN Yellow, and flowers from two Moyou London stamping plates: 08 (small) and 10 (XL), both from the Pro Collection. (I couldn't find 08 now that I wanted to link to it.)


The first photos below are of a shiny Lemon Heat with stamping, the next are with top coat (Seche Vite), and the rest are mattified (with GOSH #600 'Matt Effect Top Coat').

GOT Polish Challenge: PURPLE. Old and newer blurple- aubergine- purple with silver Pueen 49 stamping

I wanted to use my vintage Estée Lauder polish and some other purple- aubergine- blurple 1,5-  a few years old polishes. With the stamping the difference between the polishes doesn't show much, but luckily it showed better on the photos. :-)

I'm not sure how old the Estée Lauder polish is, but probably 10- 15 years old. The glue is still where the name probably used to be... There's not much left in the bottle, and I had to use a little thinner. I would describe the color as a dark purple with a little grey and brown mixed in, and a lot of gold/ bronze shimmer. You can see it on my middle finger. I have showed this bottle before when I showed my tiny vintage nail polish collection. You can find it here.

Gina Tricot, Nfu- Oh, Estée Lauder, OPI, Deborah Lippmann, China Glaze, Pueen 49

Used:

Duri Rejuvacote -base coat
Gina Tricot: #102 Cabaret - thumb
Nfu- Oh: #51 -index finger
Estée Lauder: no name - middle finger
OPI: Every Month is Oktoberfest - ring finger
Deborah Lippmann: Let's Go Crazy - pinkie
Stamping plate: Pueen 49
China Glaze: Awaken -silver
XL stamper
Lint roller - to remove polish from the stamper
Scotch tape - to remove polish from the skin
Brush dipped in acetone - to clean cuticles

Sadly I have not showed swatches of these before, other than Nfu- Oh #51 over a blue polish. You can see it here. I've used Nfu- Oh #51 several times for nail art. And the OPI has been used for layering here and here.

I tried to remove the stamped polish from my skin with scotch tape, as seen on Wacky Laki. Removing stamped polish from the skin with tape, and removing it from the stamper with a lint roller has saved me a lot of time.

GOT Polish Challenge: BLUE and #31Nails2014 #18: Inspired by your favorite piece of clothing

Today I'm combining two challenges, so I'm using a blue vintage Dior nail polish (for the GOT Challenge) and was inspired by my blue silk top, which is my favourite piece of clothing (for Day 18 in the #31Nails2014 Challenge). Before publishing this blog post, I had hoped to make all the nail art for day 6- 17 and to have written about it here on the blog, but the submissions for the GOT challenge close today...

I'm probably using my favourite blue nail polish for the last time... :-( The bottle is nearly empty, so I really hope I'll find a dupe! Christian Dior #489 Cobalt is one of my oldest nail polishes. I've written about Dior Cobalt here, and about my tiny vintage nail polish collection here. If you know how old this bottle is, please let me know. My guess is that it's from 1993. So although I've showed this polish before, I had to take some last pictures of it on it's own too. And none of the photos show how beautiful this polish is.

Sadly there's not much daylight here this time of the year. I wish we had daylight in the afternoon. In the artificial light, the shine doesn't show. And the days I could take photos outside, it was snowing...

This is the first time I'm wearing Cobalt with nail art. I just used some Joby rhinestone stickers. I like them and they don't cover to much of the polish. And sealed with a generous coat of Seche Vite they stayed on.

My vintage nail polish collection

Hello everyone!

This months Polish Days theme is VINTAGE, so here it is, the old part of my nail polish collection! :-) I'll show you the bottles of course, but I also picked 20 of them to show on a nail wheel. I haven't felt comfortable showing the collection until now, because sadly, I found out that most of these polishes are tested on animals. And most of the few brands that didn't test on animals then, started doing it. But with today's Polish Days theme, and now that the EU has stopped to test cosmetics on animals this week, I felt that I had an excuse to do it. Also, few of these bottles are still for sale.

I am very sad to say that Helena Rubinstein is on the list of companies that do test on animals. I am very concerned about animals well being, and have stopped to buy Helena Rubinstein.

So this is not meant as advertisement. I just wanted to show you an old and beautiful nail polish.

Here is another old bottle of nail polish. I used to think that this was red glitter, but now I know better... It is actually flakies. Red, and packed with flakies. Being such a bold color, I only used to use it for Christmas.

I do not know if anyone are interested in seeing the old part of my nail polish collection. Most of those bottles are probably not available any more... A few of the caps are kind of glued on, and can not be opened. But others are still OK to wear. Some of them just needed a lot of shaking, before the color looked nice again. And some were so empty and lumpy that I just tried them on a nail wheel. Anyway, I want to show you a few of my old polishes. I will start with my favorite blue:
